Background Story
Fenghuang are mythological birds of East Asia that reign over all other birds. The males are called Feng and the females Huang. In modern times, however, such a distinction of gender is often no longer made and the Feng and Huang are blurred into a single feminine entity so that the bird can be paired with the Chinese dragon, which has male connotations. The Fenghuang is also called the "August Rooster" (traditional Chinese: 鶤雞; pinyin: kūnjī) since it sometimes takes the place of the Rooster in the Chinese Zodiac. In the West, it is commonly referred to as the Chinese phoenix.

Its body symbolizes the six celestial bodies. The head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets. The concept of this artwork is about rebirth that signified a new beginning. Phoenix reborn with fire surrounding it.The Reborn as it represented a new beginning with the mythical creature Phoenix symbolizing Rebirth

This was inspired by one of my clients I work with at a group home for Chinese [ new year. They had a fabulous story of a parade of red dragons. The two lovers at the top also represent the fact this year's new year feel on Valentine's day.

The idea I wanted to convey was a celebration of starting something new into the unknown and going boldly forward.

Description:

Vanity "The Last Thing you Will ever See" Is the never ending quest for self perfetion and the desire for rebirth to begin anew. One overlooks ones personal inner beauty to the surface and struggles to define it no matter how futile it is. I chose to depict this using Medusa cutting her snakes and her obsession with not being alone. Sorrounding herself with cats that are in turn blind and don't know anything about there enviroment let alone the company they keep. There is hidden symbolism through out the drawing. It's fun for the viewer to discover and interpret these symbols without being forwarded of there intended meanings.

So many great entries in the contest, it has been very difficult to choose . I liked very much a good amount of the artworks, and after looking tons of times I finally decided to choose the ones that give me the feeling of "a new beggining" at first sight.

very well executed, funny and with the essence of a story.

2nd place:
"Fallen" by SANSKARANS
Good composition and choose of colors, and great atmosphere. A new beginning don't always have to be a nice one .

I want to give a special mention to the works of Medusadollmaker, Nakatoni, Ceruleanvii, Amarylus and Arminchaudry for their high quality works, that are pretty good ones for my taste, and keep me looking to the entries for hours .
